It is one of three lakes in the area used for power generation, along with Ross Lake to the north and Gorge Lake to the south. Why is Diablo Lake called Diablo?ĭiablo Lake is used as a reservoir, created by the Diablo Dam. These rock particles, called glacial flour, enter the lake when rock from the surrounding mountains is eroded by ice and flows into the water through glacial streams. In summer, the distinctive turquoise color of the lake is the result of suspended fine rock particles refracting sunlight. The lake is 13.2 acres with a maximum depth of 45 feet. Lost Lake (formerly called Devil’s Lake) is located southeast of Maltby between Highway 522 and the Snohomish-King County line. The loop is 9 miles with about 400 feet of elevation gain. The Pipeline Road Trail is open to hikers, equestrians, mountain bikes, motorcycles, and ATVs. A study of the trout in 1982 found the fish to be genetically unique, and more akin to inland trout populations than those from the coast. The lake is surrounded by Plummer Peak to the east, a lookout point to the west, the Miners Creek drainage and Glacier Peak to the south, and Canyon Lake to the north.Ī FINE TROUT FISHERY. Image Lake is a tarn in Glacier Peak Wilderness, in the North Cascades of Washington, United States. Great short trail with amazing views, fall colors, and a wonderful reflection of Mt. The Swim: Diablo Lake Diablo Lake is easily accessible from the North Cascades Highway making this an absolute must-see if it’s your first trip through these mountains. Swimming and fishing is prohibited at Reflection Lake, and many of its banks are closed for meadow restoration. One of the most photographed features in Mount Rainier National Park, Reflection Lake has it all - crystal clear alpine waters, wildflowers, fauna and an impressive view of Mount Rainier. Packwood is the perfect temp for a refreshing swim. If you want to fish, don’t despair – nearby Louise Lake is open for fishing and wading too. Lakes such as these are easily loved to death. Wading and swimming are also prohibited at Reflection Lakes and some of the shoreline access is closed for meadow restoration.
